Radio-controlled car: choosing your first model

In 2020, a radio-controlled car is a toy that everyone can afford to buy. Today, there is a huge selection of radio-controlled cars that drive off-road, special roads, mud and water. These models have the opportunity of buying additional batteries and spare parts. In order to choose the right machine model, we wrote this article to ease this task. It will help to understand what kind of cars exist, what characteristics the models have and what impact they have on the maneuverability, speed and strength of the models.

Types of RC cars

There are three main groups of radio-controlled models of machines, which in turn are divided into classes and types of engines that are installed in the model (electric engine, gasoline engine, glow-engine). Let’s consider these groups and classes individually.

Off-Road Radio Control Cars

This group of models includes monsters, buggies, truggies, short-course trucks, crawlers and trophies. Each class has its own characteristics and is designed for different racing conditions.

Monsters

Monsters differ from other models in increased cross-country ability and a spectacular appearance. The wheels of such models are always larger than of the cars of other classes on the same scale. Large ground clearance allows them to drive where others may not be able to. The maximum speed of monsters is about 100 km / h.

If you choose cars for radio control for children, then it is worth considering their age. If your child is still small, we recommend that you pay attention to the monster Remo Hobby SMAX RH1631 UPGRADE. This small SUV is considered one of the best options. The availability of spare parts and reliability make it a great off-road jeep. Considering low-cost models, it is worth paying attention to SUVs on a scale of 10 from the company HSP, Remo Hobby. Some of the most reliable representatives from these brands are the following monsters – HSP Brontosaurus, Monster MONSTER REMO HOBBY MMAX, Monster HSP Savagery 4WD, Monster Remo Hobby Dinosaurs Master 5. These radio-controlled cars are powerful, fast and have four-wheel drive, which has a good effect on handling. We recommend riding them only outdoors. Managing models on a scale of 10 at home is quite difficult and not safe.

If you want to buy a big car on a radio control or a car of American brands, then you should pay attention to the brands TRAXXAS, HPI, ARRMA, LOSI. The main difference between American models from Chinese models is more reliable moisture protection and high-quality assembly. Among American monsters, the first is the largest SUV on the Traxxas X-MAXX 8S electric engine. This legendary monster is considered one of the best in its class. Among the monsters from the HPI brand we can distinguish HPI SAVAGE XL FLUX. Excellent assembly, high-quality materials and characteristics of the model make it a cult SUV with a cool moisture protection.

Buggy

Buggy – this class of radio-controlled cars was created specifically for high-speed racing on dirt roads. Buggy patency is much less than that of monsters, but they win in speed and controllability at high speeds. You can ride a buggy both on special tracks and on asphalt, and in off-road conditions. The fastest buggies reach speeds of up to 120 km / h.

Choosing a budget model, we recommend looking at the HSP buggy. For the smallest children, you can choose REMO HOBBY DINGO UPGRADE. Among the Chinese-made four-wheel drive buggies, REMO HOBBY SCORPION 4WD is pretty good, which is equipped with a brushless system and speeds up to 60 km / h.

Among American models, Thunder Tiger, HPI and ARRMA are considered the fastest and most powerful cars. If we consider cars that can reach speeds of about 100 km / h, then it will be HPI Trophy Buggy Flux, HPI Vorza Flux HP, Thunder Tiger Bushmaster 8E, ARRMA Typhon BLX 6S. All of these models are among the best in their class. Each has excellent moisture protection.

Truggy

This is a class between monsters and buggies. They have all the benefits of both classes. The first is cross. In this regard, they are not much different from monsters and can drive in the most difficult conditions. The ground clearance of such models is large enough for off-road racing. In terms of handling, they are as good as buggies. At high speeds, they can easily turn and keep the track well in a straight line. If you choose traggies for a child, you can find interesting models such as the HSP Tribeshead 4WD, Iron Track Katana 4WD, Maverick iON XT, Remo Hobby Truggy EVO-R Brushless 4WD. These cars are suitable for both children and adults. Cars work on collector and brushless motors.
More powerful American-made models will cost a little more.

Short Course Truck

These SUVs have their own special design for sports trucks. Patency for these types of cars is very good. Suitable for driving in all conditions. Highways, asphalt, sand, dirt are not an obstacle for them. Championships are often held among short course trucks. The speed of cars of this class is good enough to enjoy racing along the tracks.

The cost of such machines depends on the brand, size and technical characteristics. Among the budget models, the following can be distinguished – Iron Track Spatha 4WD, Remo Hobby RH1621 4WD, Remo Hobby Truck 9emu 4WD, Traxxas Slash. When choosing a model, pay attention to size. At home, you can ride on cars on a scale of 16. Scale 10 models are more suitable for the outdoor use.

If you want to buy a large and fast short-corset model, then the following models are suitable for you – Traxxas Slash VXL OBA, HPI Blitz Flux 2WD, ARRMA Senton BLX 6S 4WD, Traxxas Slash 4X4 Platinum Edition 4WD. These models come without batteries in the kit, so you can choose either an inexpensive battery or a powerful one that will reveal the full potential of the car.

Trophies and Crawlers

Trophy cars and crawlers are a special class. The technical characteristics of such machines allow you to climb steep slopes at a slow speed, ride on water and dirt. Trophy and crawlers have a very large suspension stroke, which gives an additional advantage over other classes. As a rule, the bodies of trophy models are replicas of real cars, and they look very realistic. An excellent example of such a machine is the new product from the Traxxas TRX-4 (you can read reviews here). This is one of the best representatives of trophy cars. Excellent moisture protection allows it to safely ride on water and dirt.

If you want to buy a budget model, then we advise you to pay attention to the Remo Hobby Trial Rigs Truck. Outwardly, it recalls the famous radio-controlled AXIAL SCX10.

Among crawlers, Remo Hobby Mountain Lion Xtreme 4WD is especially popular. It is large in size, has good moisture protection and excellent cross-country ability. Suspension travel for crawlers is greater than for trophies, so if this indicator matters to you, then it is worth paying attention to this particular class of cars. If outward resemblance to real machines is more important for you, then it is worth choosing a Trophy.

Racing cars

Radio-controlled race cars include rallies and highway cars. These models have a small ground clearance, so it makes no sense to ride them in severe off-road conditions. A good dirt road or asphalt is perfect for a rally. For highway models, only asphalt or any flat surface is suitable.

The speed that highway radio-controlled cars can develop reaches 100 km / h or more. Rally cars are designed more for dirt tracks. But a speed of 80 km / h on such a car will be more than enough!

Among the highway models on the radio, there is a very large selection of both Chinese and American brands. Cars for beginners usually come with Ni-Mh batteries and commutator motors. Among these models we can distinguish Maverick STRADA TC 4WD RTR. Among the more expensive road cars, models from Traxxas, HPI, MST, Kyosho have proven themselves well. All models come with good build quality and a powerful brushless motor. If you prefer the classic bodies of the last century, we recommend considering, for example, the HPI Sprint 2 Sport 1969 Ford Mustang RTR.

Cars for drifting

This class is designed exclusively for drifting. Thanks to the hard tires, the model can easily drift, showing all the wonders of piloting. You can use them on any flat surface. It can be asphalt, parking under the shopping center, etc. The best place for drifting is special tracks, which nowadays can be found in any big city. Drift championships are also held there, in which you can take part and even win.

Just like in any class of cars, here you can also find something budgetary and inexpensive. For example, the HSP Flying Fish 2 is a great option for an inexpensive drift car. You can even use it at home.

If drift is your calling, then you should pay attention to the models from the MST company. These models are the benchmark of quality among drift fans! In addition to MST, one can also highlight drift models from HPI, Team Magic, Yokomo, Maverick.

How to choose a radio-controlled car?

Now you know what classes and types of cars there are. It is time to choose a radio-controlled car! In order to correctly choose the first model for yourself, you need to know the main characteristics by which cars differ from each other. There are few of them. Let’s consider the important characteristics.

Model scale

Conventionally, the models are divided by size as follows. The largest radio-controlled cars are of a scale of 1:5. Among them there are cars on electric and gasoline engines. Scale 5 is about 80 to 100 cm long! The smallest scale is 1:32. These models are designed for home racing and can fit in the palm of your hand. Intermediate scales – 1:7, 1:8, 1:10, 1:12, 1:16, 1:18, 1:24. The most important thing is cross-country ability. The larger the car, the better the cross. The second point is the batteries. In large models of the scale from 5 to 10, you can install high-capacity batteries which will make it possible to ride longer. High capacity batteries cannot be installed in small cars. This is the only minus of such cars. Well, the most important property is the price. As a rule, the larger the car, the greater its price.

Type of equipment

Previously, radio-controlled cars were supplied with equipment that worked at a frequency of 27, 40, 44 MHz. This created certain difficulties. If there were 2 cars nearby at 1 frequency, it was practically impossible to control them. In 2017, this issue almost disappeared. Almost all radio-controlled cars use a frequency of 2.4 GHz. At this frequency, there is no interference and you can safely control the car within direct line of sight.

Battery type

The main types of batteries used in RC cars are LI-PO, NI-MH, Li-ON, NI-CD. Let’s consider these 4 types of batteries in more detail.

Nickel Cadmium (NiCd)

A very old type of battery. Currently, it is practically not used for cars. You can find it only in radio-controlled tanks, but that’s also rare. Their only plus is the ability to be stored in a discharged state. And the main minus is the memory effect. If you started to charge it in a semi-discharged state, it will remember this capacity, and in the future it will charge up to it.

Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH)

These batteries are somewhat similar in properties to NiCd, but there is no such pronounced memory effect. They are currently used in many types of RC models, not only cars, but also boats, planes, tanks and so on. Most models that use such a battery are equipped with a collector motor. NiMH are also used in gasoline engines.

Lithium Polymer (LiPo)

The most modern type of battery, which has found wide application among RC models. These batteries are much lighter and more efficient than others. The capacity to mass ratio is three times greater than that of Nickel-metal hydride batteries. Used in cars with brushless motors. This type of battery has no memory effect. The only drawback is that they do not like to be overdischarged. They can not be discharged “to zero”. OTHERWISE the battery may malfunction. To solve this problem, some models have cutoffs for Li-Po. In other words, at a certain voltage of the battery, your car stops. There are also special Li-Po testers that are installed in the car during races. As soon as the tester starts to make noise, it’s time to turn off the machine.

Type of engine

There are two types of engines. Collector and brushless. We will talk about gasoline and glow engines in another article. This is a separate topic which will be more interesting for fans of models with internal combustion engines (ICE).

Collector motor – used mainly in entry-level models and in all models from the trophy class and crawlers. It is believed that these engines are not durable. Our experience suggests though that collector motors can easily work for a long time. It all depends on the operation of the model. It all depends, so you should not focus on this. If you want to buy the first RC car and at the same time not overpay, your choice is an inexpensive model on a collector engine. The speed of cars on such engines is usually not more than 40 km / h.

Brushless motor – it is considered more durable. The main advantage is its power. Cars that are equipped with a brushless system are capable of speeds up to 160 km / h! Brushless motors will always be more expensive due to their more modern electronics.

Moisture protection

There are radio-controlled cars with moisture protection and without it. Moisture protection is useful primarily for off-road vehicles – monsters, truggies, trophies, crawlers, short-course trucks and so on. It is rare to see it in drift models, because they ride on a flat surface and on special tracks. First of all, moisture protection is installed on the speed controller and the receiver, as well as a servo drive. They are responsible for the movement of the model and the transfer of information from the control panel to the nodes of the car which are responsible for the movement.

Which nodes are affected by water?

  • Commutator motor: not afraid of water
  • Brushless motor: not afraid of water. An exception is the brushless touch motor. If water gets into it, it may break down.
  • Servo: afraid of water, as it has electronic components.
  • Speed controller and receiver: these components are some of the most expensive and they are especially sensitive to water. Therefore, if the car does not have moisture protection, moisture can cause them to break.
  • Battery: not afraid of moisture. The exception is salty water.

Drive unit

The machine’s radio-controlled drive can be rear, front and full. Front-wheel drive is now almost never found. The most common options are rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive.

Cars with all-wheel drive are more powerful and better controlled on the highway. This is especially noticeable in the winter, when it is slippery on the tracks. All-wheel drive cars are more expensive than their counterparts with rear-wheel drive.

Kit type

Radio-controlled cars have 2 types of equipment: RTR and KIT. RTR models come fully assembled. For their operation, it is enough to buy a set of batteries for the remote control, and that’s it. Some cars already come with batteries. KIT models come unassembled and require additional investment. You would have to buy an engine, speed controller, receiver, battery, servos, etc. It may differ though. In some cars the engines are included, in others servos are included. You can see the exact configuration in the description of each model.

Brand

Currently, the following brands can be distinguished as best among manufacturers of radio-controlled cars: HSP, TRAXXAS, HPI-Racing, Maverick, Himoto, ECX, Team Magic, BSD Racing, VRX Racing, ARRMA, Losi, Thunder Tiger, Remo Hobby, Iron Track, MST.

How To Choose Paver Sealer?

Over time, the appearance of the paths in the cottage may become tiresome and then instead of completely replacing them, the paving surface can be additionally treated with “wet effect” paving impregnation.

Tile impregnation has 2 purposes: decorative and operational. If the paving of the paths initially involves the use of a durable covering, it is recommended to additionally treat the paths after the masonry work to increase their strength characteristics. In addition, impregnation changes the shade of paving and gives an unusual design effect.

Since paving slabs are exposed to negative environmental influences and take heavy loads on a daily basis, it is necessary to extend their service life. For this purpose, protective compounds are used, the advantages of which can be attributed:

  • ease of maintenance;
  • sealing of seams;
  • increased roughness, reduced sliding;
  • creating a water- and mud-repellent effect;
  • resistance to chemical agents;
  • protection from atmospheric precipitation and sharp temperature changes.

In addition to the above features, impregnation helps improve the appearance of the coating.

The following problems are solved when using impregnation:

  • Removal of moldiness and mossiness in pavel and joints between the coating and rebound.
  • Reducing the speed at which dirt settles and marks.
  • Fixing problems with moisture accumulation in the joints between the pavel and their subsequent washout.
  • Increasing resistance to chemicals and salt.
  • Reducing the risk of coating failure.
  • Saving financial resources for track repair.

Preventive impregnation of the pavement prevents its rapid abrasion and protects it from minor mechanical damage.

There are various means of protecting pavement stone and pavel:

  • Paving stones and pavel: Cleaning. Removes old impurities such as grease, salt and chemical deposits.
  • Against mildew. They are used to treat pavel joints and joint joints of paths and pavements.
  • Hydrophobisers. They are applied immediately before the road pavement is put into operation.
  • Special means for pavel and paving stone protection – best paver sealer.
  • Tile lacquer “wet effect” gives a rich color to the pavement, emphasizing the texture of the material. Acrylic lacquers on water-based and solvent-based surfaces are considered for surface treatment.
  • Water-based lacquer is more often used for interior finishing, because it is not toxic and has no harmful emissions.

Paving pavel care is just as important as flooring care in the home, as timely treatment of paths solves problems such as:

  • resistance to wear and tear;
  • moisture resistance;
  • aesthetics.

A coating treated with a “wet effect” lacquer will last longer, have an extra matte shine and look wet in dry weather, which will make the design of tracks unusual. In addition, the wet effect pavel will be safer to use thanks to its anti-slip property and will retain the natural shade of the material for longer.

When impregnated, the surface of the pavel is covered with a kind of protective film, so it is recommended to prepare the coating carefully for processing. All works can be divided into several stages:

  • Preparation. The coating is free of debris and dust. If there are old impurities, it is also recommended to remove them with detergents intended for the care of the pavement.
  • Hydrophobic. A hydrophobic composition is applied to the cleaned and fully dried surface, which looks like a transparent water-repellent film. The number of treatments is arbitrary, but before applying subsequent coats, make sure that the previous one is completely dry. Otherwise, the layers will not grip each other.
  • The final one. At this stage, the surface is covered with a finishing layer – decorative, mainly special lacquers. Finishing agents will give the appearance of “wet stone”, which will only strengthen the natural shades, returning the faded colors from time to time.

Both types of surface treatment have their advantages and disadvantage

Hydrophobisator will be an excellent protection for paving coatings, will prevent the destruction of the material from moisture, the negative impact of chemicals and precipitation.

In addition, hydrophobisator can penetrate deep into the pavel, filling pores and forming a kind of waterproofing. However, impregnation will not save from mechanical damage and does not have any decorative properties, as well as will not return the coating of the previous aesthetics.

Boxing at home

Recently, people are increasingly choosing home workouts. This article will focus on the correct setting of boxing training at home.

We immediately want to declare that in no case do we urge anyone to train independently, and mastering a sport such as boxing is best under the guidance of an experienced coach. This is especially true for beginners who will learn the basics in the boxing gym much faster.

However, for those of you who already have boxing skills and want to improve them outside the gym, this article will be very useful, since it will discuss the issues of equipping the home gym for boxing and martial arts, as well as the basics of the training process. So, let’s begin:

What do you need for boxing at home?

Here is the list of equipment and accessories you will need:

1. Of course, sportswear – boxing shorts, shirts and special boxing training shoes.

2. Boxing bandages. Keep your weapon (I mean your hand) protected. When working on shells, sparring always bandages your wrists! For beginners, boxing bandages, both from elastane and classic, from cotton, are suitable. It all depends on your personal preferences.

3. Bag gloves. They are different from training boxing gloves and are specially designed to protect your hands when working on heavy bags and at the same time to help you “deliver” the blow with a fully formed (closed) fist.

4. Punching bag. You can choose any bag that suits you according to various parameters. For more details, read our detailed instructions.

5. Mirror. Yes, mirror. It is ideal for such a basic and important exercise as shadow boxing. Also, with its help, you can practice air strikes and dives / slopes, monitoring the correct movement. Some coaches advise to hit in their reflection as in the opponent, aiming, for example, in the chin.

This list is suitable for individual boxing training. However, if you manage to find a training partner, let it be a relative or a friend (this will significantly expand the possibilities for training), then additional equipment will be required:

  • 1. Focus gloves. Your partner will hold them, and you inflict single strikes and combinations in movement.
  • 2. Boxing headguard. 80% of boxing success is training and light sparring. So a reliable boxing head guard will protect your head and face from unnecessary injuries.
  • 3. Mouthpiece (mouth guard). It will protect the teeth from strong blows of the opponent.
  • 4. 2 pairs of training boxing gloves. You can read our article about the right choice of gloves for boxing.
  • 5. Optional equipment – medical ball, speed bag, boxing timer, jump rope.

And now, let’s talk about 5 steps that will easily help you learn boxing at home.

Step One: Create Your Training Space

For boxing at home, you need a free area of about 3 * 3 meters for hanging a boxing bag. If the conditions do not allow the bag to be suspended, a water-filling dummy will suit you.

Step Two: Exercise regularly at the same time without missing workouts

This helps to quickly develop the necessary skills. For example, do exercises on movement 2-3 times a week. Learn the theory first – from a book, boxing tutorial, or video tutorials. Then go on to practice. Once mastered technique, it needs regular but short training.

Step Three: Work on your rhythm, speed, timing, and percussion technique

To do this, exercise on a heavy bag at least 2-3 times a week – this will help build skills with time. Work in rounds, for 2-3 minutes, with a total training duration of 10-15 rounds. Before working on the bag, carefully consider your combinations, do not hit it just anyhow. This will help you grow in boxing.

Step Four: Sparring Partner is REQUIRED!

From time to time, you just need to spar, and it will be better if the level of the partner is higher than yours. It is much better if it is an experienced, confident boxer who will not allow any injuries. For greater security, it is better to invite a third person as an observer of the time and progress of the sparring.

Step Five: Cardio training is also important

Include cardiovascular strengthening exercises in your weekly plan. Despite the fact that you will not be directly involved in training the blows, these loads will allow you to train more effectively in the future. At the same time, there are great exercises that are close to the load you need – like shadow boxing, jumping rope, running, etc. Remember, the battle is not won in the ring, it is won in the training!

Good luck!

How to make a Steadicam By Yourself?

A camera stabilizer is an indispensable tool in the arsenal of any videographer. We are going to provide you with instructions on how to make the simplest steadicam using parts from the nearest plumbing store. Necessary components:
  • three plumbing pipes with a diameter of 20 mm (two short ones, one more authentic);
  • T-fitting with a hole diameter of 20 mm;
  • one screw 1 / 4-20 × 1”;
  • two nuts 1 / 4-20;
  • two plugs for pipes with a diameter of 20 mm;
  • flange with a hole diameter of 20 mm;
  • wood screws for the flange;
  • PVC pipe with a diameter of 25 mm and about 15 cm in length;
  • wide adhesive tape;
  • black paint.
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to make it without leaving home, only if you have your own carpentry workshop. You can ask friends for help working with metal products, or rent the necessary equipment.

Necessary equipment:

  • Miter saw;
  • band-saw;
  • grinding machine.

Step one: Stabilizer Base

First you need to connect the three pipes by screwing them to the fitting as shown in the photo. Close the pipe perpendicular to the others with a plug, and then attach the flange to the base of the stabilizer.

Step Two: Tripod Connector

Make a hole for the 20 mm screw in the remaining plug. Screw the screw in with the head inward, attach two nuts on the back. Fix the screw with one, do not fix the other: you will need it to fix the camera. Fasten the plug to the pipe.

Step Three: Stabilizer Holder

Cut a part of the PVC pipe 10-15 cm long, and then make a longitudinal cut exactly in the middle with a band saw. Repeat the process with the resulting crop. As a result, you will have four slightly bent plates, you will need three of them. Run the PVC plates on the grinder, get rid of burrs and grind the corners as shown in the photos. Place the PVC pieces on a tape. Cut the peeling edges of the tape on three sides, leave one to secure the holder to the stabilizer body.

Step Four: Final Touch

Give a more pleasant look to your product from plumbing pipes. Black paint is perfect for these purposes. Before spraying, be sure to remove the steadicam holder and tripod screw. Screw the flange to the wood block: this is necessary to secure the load at the base of the stabilizer.

Step Five: Preparing for the Shooting

The resulting stabilizer compensates for the difference in height in the horizontal plane, but with the camera pointing up or down, our steadicam is powerless. Therefore, it is necessary to balance the weight by attaching the load to a wooden base. The usual building brick will do. Our stabilizer is ready for shooting. If the process above is too difficult for you, you can consider purchasing any stabilizer from https://bestrobotsguide.com/best-smartphone-stabilizers list.

How to get rid of weed?

To keep your garden clean, you need to know how to get rid of weeds. You can try to get rid of weeds with chemical herbicides, but if you are an opponent of this method, you can try to get rid of weeds by simple folk means.

Many gardeners dream of getting rid of weeds forever, but unfortunately this is impossible.

Weed seeds are contained in the soil in large quantities, and every summer they begin to germinate in spite of all gardeners. They should be eradicated at an early stage, because the more energy they gain, the more detrimental effect on the vital functions of cultivated plants. The weed sucks nutrients, moisture, minerals out of the soil and exhausts it, as well as absorbing the light needed by the planted plants.

Weed treatment with herbicides

This method is the fastest, most efficient and will take you the least amount of time. The choice of herbicide depends on the type of herb that spreads unchecked through your garden or vegetable garden. There are two types of pesticides on the biochemical market:

  • Systemic (when it hits leaves or stems, the poison spreads both above and below ground, causing the weed to die off from the root to the last leaf);
  • Contact (acts only where the poison enters).

There are herbicides on the spectrum of action:

  • selective action;
  • continuous action.

The difference is that solid herbicides will destroy not only the weed, but also all the cultivated plants you have planted. They can be used if you expect to see a field that is completely clean and free of weeds. It is often used to control dangerous and strong weeds such as borschevic or ragweed. Solid herbicides such as Antiburyan or Tornado will help eliminate all unwanted weeds on the lawn by preparing the ground for soft green grass.

Selective herbicides also help to maintain a beautiful and well-groomed lawn. If undesirable “guests” such as wheatgrass or dandelions start to break through the grass, all you have to do is choose the right remedy and determine the required chemical concentration.

Proper use of such agents will help to destroy weeds, but will not harm cultivated plants.

Mechanical weed control

Mechanical action means digging, cutting or pulling a storm out of the ground. It is possible to remove weeds this way, but it will take a lot of time and effort. For example, a garden portal has an underdeveloped root system and can be easily pulled out of the ground. But many weeds, such as wheatgrass or thistle, can hardly be removed manually.

Many try to mow weeds, which leads to further germination. If the root of a weed is not removed, the weed will still sprout and gain strength again in the future. Such a procedure should be carried out at least three times so that the root dries out and the plant does not attempt to climb.

The disadvantage of this method is the time and energy it takes. It is worth taking into account that weeds come up at different times, so weeding will need to be done periodically. The second disadvantage is that it is impossible to use this method on the lawn, because by mowing “parasites” you will damage the ornamental grass.

Mulching the soil

Mulching is a great way to control weeds, but you won’t find that you can deal with the problem quickly. The essence of the way is this: the earth is covered with some material (black film, sawdust, crushed stone, leaves), which deprives it of sunlight. Without sunlight there is no photosynthesis, and even the most resistant and strong plant dies.

This method is very effective and practically has no drawbacks, except one – the duration of the process. If you need to remove the bushes of weeds from the overgrown area, then cover the ground with a film is in late spring, and shoot next summer. The result will be stunning, but the year will have to wait.

You can put film or paper on a plot with strawberries or potatoes, making holes for each bush. The weeds will die slowly and strawberry bushes will not be affected, because thanks to the film, the soil will store moisture and heat.

People’s ways of fighting weeds

Before the invention of herbicides and other substances, people learned to fight against bad grass without chemistry and black film, which was popular among all dacha residents. Vinegar-based salt solution and home weed solution are considered very popular folk remedies.

Salt

A solution of common table salt, once in the soil, prevents the growth of weeds. This method helps to remove weeds and has been used for centuries, due to its availability and cheapness. It is enough to water the ground with a strong warm salt solution or generously sprinkle the area with salt (1.5 kg of salt per 1 m2), and dew and rainfall themselves will help it to dissolve and soak into the ground. The disadvantage of this method is the long-term unsuitability of the soil.

How to Clean a Dishwasher

In order for a dishwasher to perform its duties properly, it is necessary not only to observe the rules of operation, but also to take regular care of the equipment. Otherwise, you may encounter troubles such as the smell of must, fatty deposits and mould. And in particularly neglected cases – with the breakdown of the equipment itself. All about how to clean the dishwasher at home and extend its life, you will learn from our proposed article. We’ve described in detail the ways, steps, and recommended products, like dishwasher cleaner, to take care of your dishwasher and listed some tried and tested products. With our advice, you will eliminate any problems with your machine.

Mechanical cleaning steps

Although many modern dishwashers have a self-cleaning function, this does not save you from periodically washing the filters and other machine elements. And even professional care products may not be enough when it comes to clogging or operating in hard water. Therefore, the key to a perfect dishwasher is comprehensive and timely care. Flushing the drain and fill filter On the drain of any dishwasher there is a multilayer filter, whose task – to prevent clogging the flow with pieces of food and other garbage. But even if you diligently follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and wipe the dishes with wipes before each load to remove food scraps, fat or hard water can cause the appliance to stop without completing the full wash cycle.

To get to the filter, proceed as follows:

  • Disconnect the dishwasher.
  • Remove the bottom basket, collect the remaining water at the bottom of the appliance with a sponge.
  • In the lower part of the case next to the sprayer we find a round hollow – in it there is a filter, which consists of a metal membrane for fine cleaning, a plastic glass with large holes and an inner mesh.
  • In the new dishwashers, this element can be easily removed by simply pulling it up or unscrewing it counterclockwise. But in models older than 7-10 years you may need a screwdriver, pliers and other handy tools from your home master’s arsenal.
  • Remove water with a sponge from the filter opening itself and inspect the niche for contaminants – if any solid waste particles get through the filter protection, they could damage or break the pump.
  • To make sure that the pump impeller is working properly, you can unscrew the self-tapping screwdriver, remove the protective strip and carefully turn the blades. If they rotate easily and no foreign objects are found, they can be reassembled. Otherwise, you will have to disassemble the pump structure.
  • All parts are then cleaned of debris and washed with warm water and any grease solvent. If the filter has not been cleaned for a long time, the mesh cells are clogged or the glass is covered with limescale, you can soak these elements for a couple of hours in a solution of vinegar, citric acid or spray the dishwasher.
Although the exit filter is the most popular place for clogging, a comprehensive mechanical cleaning of the dishwasher does not prevent you from checking the condition of the fence hose. Sand, rust and salt particles may accumulate here. To clean the fill in the dishwasher, disconnect the filler hose (and at the same time rinse it). There must be two filters inside: one immediately behind the T-crane and one at the inlet of the appliance itself. Both grids are removed and rinsed with warm water. If they are damaged or severely clogged, they can be replaced with new ones – such flowers are inexpensive. After checking, all filters are collected in the reverse order.

Checking and cleaning the sprinklers

Another problem element that can disable a dishwasher is the spraying system. Although the water from the hose is supplied already cleaned of coarse impurities, fine particles of sand and calcium salt can easily pass through the inlet filter cells. In addition, water with high stiffness can disable the sealing gum on the rotating rocker arms, so it is advisable to inspect them at least once a month.

The principle of cleaning the sprayers:

  • Take out the upper basket together with the rocker arm attached to it.
  • Bend out the latches and remove the sprinkler blades.
  • Take out the bottom basket and remove the bottom bracket – normally, just turn the bracket counterclockwise and pull it up while holding the part in the middle.
  • Inspect the condition of the seals (replace if necessary).
  • Flush the blades under running water, clean the nozzles and connectors.
  • Reassemble the system and make sure that the sprinklers rotate without interference or force.
The rocker arm fasteners may vary from model to model, so check the instructions before the first cleaning to make sure you do not accidentally break the latches.
